Production photo's 1999 to 2002
1999 -Women of Manhattan by John Patrick Shanley
Our debut production, 12 clamp lights, bed sheet strung as a back drop, with a cardboard skyline back lit.
From the Critics: " . . . a twisted backdrop of skyscrapers designed by Daniel Reilly appropriately mirrors the characters skewed perspective. The performances of the three women are also credible and each brings a uniqueness to her characters that works." - Rick Reed, Outlines
2000 - Four Dogs and a Bone by John Patrick Shanley
A revisit to our first writer later in his career. We only had to cancel one show due to snow.
From the critics:
2000 - Fast Cheap and Easy
This exciting 2 week festival featured guest artists from around the Midwest and boasted all new theatrical works including an all puppet 15-min version of Marat/Sade.
2002 - Closer by Patrick Marber
Collaboratively produced between the cast and director, we brought out the humanity in this cold work.
From the critics: "Marber does a smashing job of cutting to the essence of desire, and GroundUp Theatre has responded with a production as lean and hungry as the script. Matthew Haddock's set design . . . adds to the productions intimacy and Molly J. Neylan's elemental lighting gracefully shifts the emotional tone using not many more than a dozen lights. Director Sabrina Lloyd and her cast are fearless in their approach - they've taken apparently self-possessed characters and shaped them into fragile creatures. It's a move that runs counter to the play's logic, but Marber's impassive script feels more authentic for their efforts." - Nick Green the Reader
